Unscripted basket

I'm back to blogging (didn't I say that last week?) with another fun project with an Unscripted Sketch. This week I was stumped by the large panel so I just shrunk it to fit a fun project....a little wooden basket (4 inches tall) that I got a long time ago at the dollar store. It's become a fun springtime/Easter basket that I think I'll give my MIL. I found those fun Making Memories brads at a local scrapbook store. I guess I should make some Easter cards this weekend to use the rest of them!

Back to it with a HOP in my step!

What an exciting day....I'm back to blogging, I've got a card to share and this is one of the stops on the OWH Stars and Stamps blog hop! If you didn't come by way of Lee you can stop at the top of the hop over at Stars and Stamps.

For today's springy card I went with one of my favorite sentiments (seems like it can be used for just about anything, and I'm sure the heroes are always dreaming of home or someone there!) with this week's sketch at Unscripted Sketches. Check it out, play along to make a card for a hero and maybe you'll be picked for our first top 3 this week!!! There's a piggyback challenge to use a paint chip but I left that out because I didn't have any cheerful colors in my stash.

I happened upon Operation Write Home (formerly Cards for Heroes) last year with the Memorial Day blog hop and have been enjoying making and sending cards ever since. When my brother was stationed in Afghanistan I don't know that I sent him a single card. I'd just met my husband and was student teaching, but no excuses! So that's a bit of why I like to make cards, but all the stories that are shared on the Facebook page and the inpiration from fellow cards makers at Stars and Stamps keep me inspired.

I don't have anything else to share today (I'm crocheting like a mad woman in addition to hopping to a few hundred places) so it's time to head to the next stop on the hop, Susie. She's got some adorable cards and CANDY!!! When you're all done hopping I hope you'll find time to play along at Unscripted Sketches too.

9 good reasons....

...I've fallen off the face of the (blog) earth:

1.) Report cards...all you teachers out there understand!

2.) Making my nephew's birthday invites (check out last year's HERE)

3.) Need to finish a baby afghan for my friend's baby shower...which is on Sunday! Check out a similar one I made for my SIL.

4.) Hitting the gym! Remember that new year's resolution?

5.) Report card comments...see #1

6.) I joined Weight Watchers (down 5.6 the first week, tomorrow I'll find out if the second week was a success) and counting out how many crackers I can eat takes time!

7.) Cooking more meals=dishes, and you must know that I am the dishwasher. Eating healthy takes time!

8.) I didn't sign in to blogger for more than a week. I can't even imagine what my reader looks like. And I hate to miss everyone's creations.....when I get overwhelmed I put things off, then there's more to look at and I'm more overwhelmed. A vicious cycle! Today I'm putting my toe in the water, and by the weekend I'll jump back in.

9.) Have I mentioned REPORT CARDS????

PS--Parents, please note how much STRESS goes into each grade your 6 or 7 year old receives and treat their teacher with care. Thank them for all their hard work. And if it isn't what you'd like them to get, please remember this will NOT smash their chances of getting into Harvard or Yale. It's first grade!

When life throws you scraps....

...make a quilt!

At least that's how I attacked this week's Unscripted Sketch! Must've been the sewing in this card that inspired me. Normally I try to mat my dsp pieces but I wanted it to look like scraps of fabric waiting to be made into a quilt.

1.) I teach first grade (and took MY first grade teacher's job when she retired)

2.) I met my husband working at a YMCA summer camp

3.) I still work at my first job (13 years now!) at a local Hallmark....shhhh, don't tell them I make cards!

4.) I'm addicted to Vera Bradley bags and wallets. Love it!

5.) I've never left this time zone (EST)

6.) My husband's birthday is the day after mine...we always share parties and cakes.

7.) I love to go antique shopping and look through consignment shops. I've got many of my finds as everyday uses in my house!

Frayed edges

This title not only refers to my card today, but to how I feel on frantic days like today! I was finally back to school after vacation today and with an extra day off on Monday it had me (and the kids) all out of sorts. But that huge storm that swept through NH late last week left many without power--not me--and many trees down closing a few roads. I was lucky and didn't lose power for a moment, plus cut down the big tree out front a couple years ago. Not much snow, and what fell has melted or washed away in the rain. Enough about the weather, how about my card?

This card came from a variety of ideas I had in my head over vacation but just never could get to creating. I had a TON of fun with the Mojo Monday sketch and just couldn't get the though of fabric out of my head thanks to the challenge over at Everything But the Kitchen Sink. And once I was pulling the fabric out it was easy to set up the sewing machine quick too. This is a scrap I had left over from some bags I made here and I love combining teal with pink and brown. I stamped the hearts in Chocolate Chip ink and tied a bit of ribbon with some twine. The brown strip is actually from one of those funky things you put on your coffee to keep your hand from burning through the paper cup. They have a name, I just don't know it! Recycling can be so much fun! The most amazing part is that this just fell together and quickly too. Fraying the edges was probably the most time consuming part. Funny how things fray when you don't want them too, but when you want them to it's a process.

That's all from me today, I'm off to relax a bit and get ready for another day of school tomorrow. Thank so much for all your sweet comments lately, they sure do make my day!
